Water Management Strategies Implemented in Mangaluru Amidst Shortages

WD News: In response to dwindling water levels in key reservoirs, authorities in Mangaluru have unveiled a strategic plan to manage water resources effectively. Mayor of Mangaluru, addressing the issue, outlined the measures undertaken to mitigate water scarcity in the region.

The mayor emphasized that if the water level in Thumbay drops to 5 meters, replenishment will be sourced from the AMR dam. Similarly, should the water level in the AMR dam decrease to 16 meters, replenishment efforts will be initiated from the Harekala dam.

Highlighting the severity of the situation, the mayor noted that urban areas such as Ullal, Kotekar, and Someshwar are grappling with water shortages, necessitating water supply via tanker services. Additionally, five gram panchayats including Konaje, Balepuni, Narimogaru, Manjanady, and Pajiru are experiencing similar shortages in rural areas.

The public has been urged to conserve water and collaborate with the district administration in these efforts. While rationing measures are currently not in place, the mayor stressed that their success in avoiding such measures relies heavily on public cooperation and adherence to water conservation practices.
