More than 200 Punekars Join Cycle Rally for Water Saving Oath Together

“There is enough for everyone’s need but not for everyone’s greed”. The need for water conservation is being felt all around. Cities are battling for one drop of water. In a grave situation such as this, it falls on the citizens to do their due diligence and to contribute towards realising the dream of a future which is sustainable.

One such initiative for water conservation was taken by Mr. Rahul D. Shah. The cycle rally which started at Shree Shwetamabar Jain Temple, Dadawadi to Khadakwasla Chowpatty was Mr. Rahul’s brainchild. In an effort to raise awareness about water conservation among citizens, the Jain Youth Federation in Pune organised an extraordinary bicycle rally – “I am a Water Saving Champion!”

The rally took place on Sunday, 5th May, and was open to all. More than 250 cyclists participated in the event, including female cyclists. The rally commenced at 5:45 AM from Shri Jain Dadawadi Temple, Saras Bag, Pune and concluded at Khadakwasla Chowpatty at 7:15 AM.

During the rally, all participants took an oath to conserve water and spread awareness about water-saving practices among other citizens. At Khadakwasla Chowpatty, four ready-made stands provided various simple and effective tips for water conservation. Cyclists pledged to follow these guidelines and make water conservation a priority in their daily lives.

Each participant received a t-shirt with the slogan, “I am a Water Saving Champion!” as a token of their commitment. Additionally, arrangements were made for breakfast at Khadakwasla Chowpatty for all cyclists. The event aimed to emphasise the importance of water conservation and promote responsible water usage in Pune, which is a lifeline for the city.

The project leader behind this exceptional social initiative, Rahul Shah, is a dedicated cyclist and advocate for community welfare. He believes that the bicycle rally symbolises the collective commitment to water conservation and ensures a water-secure future for generations to come. Rahul Shah has been actively working on this project for the past 21 days, collecting detailed information from each participant through a Google Form. The form included details such as names, e-mail addresses and t-shirt sizes.

The “Save Water” bicycle rally received sponsorship from India Cement Limited and people across all age groups contributed towards the cause.
