57% of 24*7 Drinking Water Project Completed: Corp.

Almost 57% of the Suez 24*7 drinking water supply project has been completed. City corporation authorities said that the project had been facing delays due to certain issues and that contractors have been asked to expedite the work. “Almost 57% of the work has been completed. Due to some pending pipeline work, tank construction, or some changes in the structural establishment, there is a slight delay. We have instructed the contractors to expedite the work with the complete restoration of roads. If not, then penalties will be imposed. To date, progress is maintained with high-quality service,” corporation commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran said. The commissioner has listed the pending works and their statuses.

According to official data, the targets of the 24*7 water supply project are the completion of 75km feeder mines, a distribution line of 1,745km, providing 1.50 lakh house connections, the establishment of 98 District Metered Areas (DMA) and construction of 33 service reservoirs. Of the given targets, only 35.89km of the feeder mines or about 47% of the total target has been completed. Over 1,200 distribution lines or 75% of the work is finished. Similarly, 78,676 house service connections are completed. Corporation officials said that 7% of the DMAs have been receiving 24*7 water supply and 27% are receiving intermediate supply. The work is yet to start in the remaining DMAs. Work is still going on in all the service reservoirs.
