WD News: A total of 23 new sewerage projects for a Thiruvananthapuram city worth Rs 109.89 crore is set to receive administrative sanction from the state government under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Phase-II.

The recent meeting of the state high-powered steering committee considered the proposal after Kerala Water Authority (KWA) had submitted detailed project reports for the sewerage projects in the city.

The 4th apex committee of Amrut Phase-II had approved the first tranche of the State Water Action Plan (SWAP-1) comprising 199 water supply projects for 93 urban local bodies and 23 sewerage projects for the city.

SWAP is oriented towards achieving desired functional outcomes such as universal coverage of water supply and sewerage/ septage management, as per the operational guidelines of AMRUT Phase-II.

The city has over 2.7 lakh households without a sewer connection or coverage under septage management. Only 16% of households in the city have sewer connections, according to the city water balance plan submitted by the city corporation.
