The Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance water management cooperation between the two countries on November 27. The MOU marks the beginning of a joint initiative aimed at improving water resource management in Uzbekistan.
The signing ceremony took place during a meeting between the Minister of Water Management of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Khamrayev, and a delegation led by Pak Tae Sun, the Executive Director of KRC. Minister Khamrayev welcomed the delegation and emphasised the productive partnership between Uzbekistan and Korea in the field of water management.
One of the key areas of focus is the pilot project, Integrated Water Resources Management in Uzbekistan, which is being implemented under the Korean Official Development Assistance (ODA) program. This project, valued at$8mn, will be carried out over the next four years in the Syrdarya region and aims to improve the safety, efficiency, and digitalization of Uzbekistan’s water management systems.
The project will include measures such as the concreting of irrigation networks, digitalisation of water management processes, and the establishment of a research center and a “Situational Center” for monitoring water usage and safety.
Additionally, the initiative will involve the creation of a joint venture under the Ministry of Water Resources and will support seminars, training sessions, and international events for knowledge exchange and capacity building.
