NMSCDCL Starts Installation of Smart Water Meters in Nashik

If this pilot project is successful, then the water meters of nearly 2 lakh residential consumers will be replaced with smart meters.

WD News: The Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. (NMSCDCL) has started the installation of smart meters for commercial water connections in the city.

The LoRaWan-based smart meters are to be installed for a total of 13,000 connections. So far, 50 meters have been installed, and it will take around three months to complete the installation process.

With the help of smart meters, the Nashik Muncipal Corporation (NMC) will be able to take meter readings online, thus eliminating the need for manual reading. The reading, according to the corporation officials, will happen on a daily basis.

“We have deployed a Mumbai-based agency for the installation of the smart meters for commercial water connections through a tender process. Initially, the agency conducted a survey of all commercial connections during the last two months. Now, installation of the smart meters has been started in the city,” said NMSCDCL officials.

Apart from smart meters, the smart city corporations will also install supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) water meters at 130 elevated water tanks and other water filtration plants. This will allow the civic body to have an accurate record of water supply from source to elevated water tanks.

The Smart City Corporation will also construct two water treatment plants. The total cost of both projects-the plants and the installation of smart water meters-is estimated at around Rs 165 crore.
