Manila Water is constructing the P2.5-billion Hinulugang Taktak Sewerage System Project, which includes a 16 Million Litre per Day Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and four-kilometre combined sewer network, in Antipolo City.

30% of the Hinulugang Taktak sewage treatment facility has been finished. The project, which is expected to be completed by December 2025, will also aid the rehabilitation of Antipolo City’s Hinulugang Taktak Falls.

WD News: As part of its commitment to provide better sewerage and sanitation services for its increasing customers in the East Zone of Metro Manila, Manila Water is constructing the P2.5-billion Hinulugang Taktak Sewerage System Project, which includes a 16 Million Litre per Day Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and four-kilometre combined sewer network, in Antipolo City.

To date, 30% of the Hinulugang Taktak STP is finished, with work on a pumping station, a force main network, and a gravity network already underway. The construction is expected to be completed by December 2025.

The construction of the STP is the result of a usufruct agreement between Manila Water and Antipolo City’s local government unit (LGU) in 2020. The agreement covers the use of the 8,646-square-metre property of the Antipolo LGU along Taktak Road in Barangay Santa Cruz, as the build site.

According to Manila Water Wastewater Supply Headline Project Manager Joyce General, the massive improvement of the sewerage system will also help rehabilitate the Hinulugang Taktak Falls, one of the city’s popular tourist destinations.

By 2037, the completed network is expected to serve 160,692 residents of Antipolo City’s Barangay dela Paz, Barangay San Isidro, Barangay San Roque, and Barangay San Jose.
