Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran Gives Technical Approval for Sewage Treatment Plant in Gangapur

The new STP, which would have the ability to process 12 million litres of sewage per day (MLD), will cost about Rs 25 crore to construct.

WD News: The plan for setting up a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Gangapur prepared by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has received the technical approval of the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP).

The MJP has also given its approval to another project – laying a pipeline for treated water of the STPs at Gangapur at a cost of Rs 20 crore.

The treated water by the STP will be used at farms, gardens, industries and construction sites. As per an NMC official, the civic body would now go ahead with the process of setting up the STP. “We have already received funds for the project from the centre,” the official said.

“We have an 8-acre land in Gangapur where the existing STP was constructed and made operational. The capacity of the existing Gangapur STP is 18 MLD. The Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) level of the treated sewage of this existing Gangapur STP is below 5,” the official added.

The new STP will be built adjacent to the existing STP. “We have so far received Rs 40 crore for both the projects and the remaining funds will come in the next phase,” the official said.

Currently, the civic body has 11 STPs across the city with a total treatment capacity of 392 million litres per day (MLD).
