WD News: Mangaluru: Rahim Khan, minister for municipal administration and Haj, said that a common waste management unit can be set up for Ullal City Municipality, Someshwara Town Municipality and Kotekar town panchayat. Chairing an official review meeting at Kotekar town panchayat on Monday, the minister Rahim Khan said that since Ullal City Municipality, Someshwara Town Municipality and Kotekar Town Panchayat are adjacent to each other, setting up a common waste management unit will be ideal decision.
“There are no waste management units in the threeurban local bodies. Speaker UT Khader, who is MLA of Mangaluru constituency, also has suggested the setting up of a scientific waste management unit for three urban local bodies. A large-scale waste management unit will solve the problems. The government will sanction the funds required for the purpose,” the minister said.
He directed officials of the urban local bodies and town panchayats to implement schemes effectively to mitigate the water crisis during summer. “There should be no hindrances in the drinking water supply during summer. People should not face any inconvenience due to the water crisis. Prepare action plans in advance instead of taking initiative at the last minute. The possible water crisis in peak summer can be prevented if we adopt measures now,” he said. Further, the minister insisted that more emphasis should be given to the distribution of various scheme benefits to eligible beneficiaries. “Ensure that the targets in each social welfare and development scheme are achieved by the end of the year. Take people and people’s representatives into confidence while implementing schemes. Take appropriate measures for resource mobilisation through effective tax collection in local bodies,” he insisted.
