Amit Shah Inaugurates Barrage for Sabarmati River Costing Rs. 235 Crore

PM Modi has ‘quenched Gujarat’s thirst for water’ as the then CM of the state, Amit Shah claimed

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “quenched Gujarat’s thirst for water” as the then chief minister of the state as he inaugurated various developmental projects worth Rs. 241 crore in Ahmod, Mansa in Gandhinagar district — including a barrage on the Sabarmati river — on Wednesday.

The barrage will be built at the cost of Rs. 235 crore. The other projects  include a Mansa circuit house, a check dam, and a protection wall near a temple in the region. Shah also said that efforts are on to build 14 dams on the river so that it is full of water throughout the year.

“When a river remains full of water, the water levels (in the nearby areas) rise by 40-50 feet,” Shah said.

Shah is a native of Mansa. He said, “Narendrabhai has done the work of quenching Gujarat’s thirst (for water). I distinctly remember. I became an MLA for the first time in 1997. I went to the Assembly for the first time. All the MLAs from north Gujarat were seeking permission from the government to make borewells. It was not being granted because of (the area being marked as a) dark zone.”

He said that the resolve to “change the entire situation” was taken by PM Modi, citing his “efforts” to complete or initiate projects such as the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Yojana, SujalamSuflam, and Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI). Shah claimed that through all these projects, PM Modi provided water to water-starved regions of Gujarat like Saurashtra, Kutch, and north Gujarat.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel , local MLAs, and MPs were also present on the occasion.
