Minister of state for water resources Ishwarsinh Patel said that the water storage capacity in the state has increased by 20,789 lakh cubic feet (LCF) this year. This was mainly because of the Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan, he added.
Over the past eight years, the Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan has achieved a cumulative increase of 1,38,039 lakh cubic feet in the water storage capacity across the state.
The drive is conducted every summer and activities like deepening of lakes, ponds and other water bodies are taken up across the state. A total of 13,315 water conservation works were completed in the state till May 2026, an official statement said.
The campaign included deepening of 2,450 lakes, desilting of 3,661 check-dams, and repair of 1,160 check-dams. Additionally, 626 km of canals and 1,277 km of drainage channels were cleaned.
