Thirteen out of the 20 water ATMs, which were installed by the Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) at a cost of Rs 2 crore in the city in 2018 for the convenience of the citizens particularly in summer, have been lying non-functional for the last couple of months

A water ATM is an automated water vending machine that dispenses pure drinking water when a coin or a note is inserted into it. A water vending machine works like any bank ATM. The water ATM dispenses 250 ml of water for
Rs 1; one litre for Rs 5; 5 litres for Rs 10 and 20 litres for Rs 25.

The water ATMs were installed at 20 different locations of the city, including GMCH, MMCH, Dr B Barooah Cancer Institute, Regional Science Centre at Khanapara and Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden.
