Approximately 1,917 cusecs of Yamuna water will be supplied to the Shekhawati region through a pipeline of about 295 kilometres.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said the Yamuna water project will provide water to the Shekhawati region, covering the districts of Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu. He said the project is expected to support development in the region.
The CM was speaking at a programme organised by the Shekhawati Foundation at Birla Auditorium in Jaipur, where he was felicitated following the Yamuna water agreement. He said the state government is working on projects related to water security, road connectivity, energy, education, healthcare, agriculture, tourism and heritage conservation.
During the programme, the CM symbolically handed over a ceremonial containing Yamuna water to representatives from the Shekhawati region. Representatives of social, religious and trade organisations attended the event.
Yamuna water project Sharma said the Yamuna water agreement has been implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said approximately 1,917 cusecs of Yamuna water will be supplied to the Shekhawati region through a pipeline of about 295 kilometres. According to the government, the project will benefit around 7.5 million people in Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Churu and adjoining areas.
He said a water-sharing agreement was signed in 1994, but Rajasthan had not received its allocated share of Yamuna water. He said the current agreement addresses the issue through discussions and coordination between the concerned governments. Heritage conservation The CM said the state government has launched the Shekhawati Haveli Conservation Scheme.
Under the programme, a plan has been prepared for the conservation and tourism use of 662 historic havelis in Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu, while retaining their original architectural character.He said the Kotputli–Kishangarh Greenfield Expressway and the Bikaner–Kotputli Expressway will improve connectivity between the Shekhawati region, Delhi-NCR and western Rajasthan, facilitating transport, industry, agriculture and tourism.
The CM said Shekhawati has made contributions in defence, business and trade, and referred to religious and historical sites in the region, including Khatu Shyamji, Salasar Balaji, Jeen Mata, Shakambhari Mata, Harshnath, Lohargal, Nawalgarh, Mandawa and Dundlod.Urban Development and Local Self Government Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra said the Yamuna water project would help meet the long-standing water needs of Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu.
Former Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore said the agreement was a tribute to former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. Shekhawati Foundation President Vinod Kumar Goyal said the project would improve water availability in the region and support its future development. The programme was attended by Rajasthan State Soldiers’ Welfare Board Chairman Prem Singh Bajor, MLAs Kalicharan Saraf, Gordhan Verma, Harlal Saharan, Rajendra Bhambu, Subhash Meel, Gopal Sharma, Dharampal Gurjar and Vikram Singh Jakhal, along with representatives of the Shekhawati Foundation and various social, religious and trade organisations.
