Rejuvenated Water Storage Facility Commissioned at Vellalore Dump Yard in Coimbatore

Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran on Monday inaugurated a restored water storage facility at the Vellalore dump yard. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance water reuse and fire safety measures within the premises.

The facility, which had remained unused due to structural damage, has now been renovated. Restoration work involved clearing overgrown vegetation, reinforcing the embankments, and lining the bed with tarpaulin sheets to prevent seepage. The structure can store up to 60 million litres of water.

Treated water from the Ukkadam sewage treatment plant is transported through pipelines to this facility. The stored water will be used to irrigate trees planted across the dump yard, support composting operations, and assist in firefighting when needed.
