Pune Municipal Corporation Starts Construction Work for Eight Sewage Treatment Plants

WD News: The civic administration of Pune has started construction work for eight sewage treatment plants (STPs) coming up as a part of the river pollution abatement project.

The authorities have said that proposals for the STPs at Kharadi and NT Wadi are in final stages, while the steps to get hold of land proposed for STP at Aundh-Baner have been initiated.

The river pollution abatement project is expected to restrict the release of untreated sewage into Mula and Mutha. Eleven STPs will collectively treat 396 MLD sewage. Besides setting up of STPs, the project also includes laying of trunk lines and sewer lines of 113.6 km and renovation of four existing intermediate pumping stations.

A PMC official said, “Laying of sewer lines at four locations has been started along with the STP work. We have expedited the piling work at all 8 locations.”
