OCHA: Hundreds of Families in Jawzjan Gain Access to Clean Water and Sanitation Facilities

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that access to clean water and proper sanitation has improved the lives of hundreds of families in the Khanqah district of Jawzjan province.

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, the organisation reported on its X page that this project was implemented with the support of the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) and in collaboration with the Organization for Afghan Women’s Capacity and Knowledge (OAWCK).

The rehabilitated solar-powered water pipeline network now provides clean water to more than 150 families, and sanitation facilities have been provided for 20 families.

OCHA stated that prior to this initiative, the lack of clean water and adequate sanitation had led to the outbreak of various diseases, particularly among women and children.

Additionally, hygiene training has been conducted for over 500 individuals, covering topics such as the prevention of gender-based violence and sexual abuse.

This comes at a time when many remote areas of Afghanistan still lack access to basic sanitation services.
