Manila Water is enhancing its capabilities based on three core pillars: Damage Prevention and Control, Preservation and Augmentation, and Rapid Recovery.
WD News: Manila Water is proactively enhancing its Emergency Preparedness Framework to ensure a continuous water supply during emergencies for its customers and stakeholders in the public and private sectors. The company is focussed on three key pillars.
Damage Prevention and Control: Manila Water has implemented various preventive measures to minimise damage to its resources and facilities. Rehabilitation and extension of La Mesa Dam’s spillway and retaining wall, as well as the use of floating pumps, help monitor turbidity in raw water during the rainy season. Storm drains and flood proofing have been constructed to address flooding risks. The replacement of PVC pipes with more damage-resistant HDPE pipes has also contributed to reducing non-revenue water.
Preservation and Augmentation: The company ensures water availability through standby reservoirs with a total capacity of 437 million litres, providing 4.78 days of water supply to customers in the East Zone. Existing deep wells and emergency online reservoirs further contribute to the water supply. Additionally, four mobile treatment plants can treat brackish and floodwater at a considerable rate.
Rapid Recovery: Manila Water has prepared for rapid recovery by procuring contingency vehicles and equipment such as a mobile command centre, ambulances, rescue vehicles, and more. Contingency spare parts, generator sets, and fuel storage tanks are also readily available in all facilities.
By focusing on these pillars, Manila Water aims to ensure a reliable water supply and efficient response during emergency situations.
