Kurita, Membrane Group Launch India JV for Semiconductor Water Treatment

The JV expands localised water treatment capabilities to support India’s fast-growing semiconductor manufacturing and electronics ecosystem development.

Kurita Industries Ltd has established Kurita Membrane India Pvt. Ltd, a joint venture (JV) with Membrane Group India Pvt. Ltd, to provide water treatment solutions for India’s electronics industry, with an initial focus on semiconductor manufacturing.

The new company combines Kurita’s water treatment technologies with Membrane Group’s engineering, manufacturing, installation, and lifecycle service capabilities in India. It will deliver advanced water treatment, ultrapure water, wastewater recycling, resource recovery, water analysis, and environmental solutions for electronics manufacturers.

The JV comes as India continues to attract significant semiconductor investments, driven by government initiatives and growing global demand fueled by generative AI. Industry projections estimate the country’s semiconductor market will expand from approximately $15 billion in 2020 to more than $64 billion by 2026 and $110 billion by 2030. The government’s latest roadmap also targets building a semiconductor value chain worth $120 billion to $150 billion by 2035.

Kurita said the venture aligns with its medium-term management plan, Pioneering Shared Value 2027 (PSV-27), which identifies the electronics sector as a strategic growth area. The company said partnering with Membrane Group enables it to strengthen its presence in India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor market by leveraging the local company’s established customer relationships and project execution capabilities.

According to a press statement, the JV will provide advanced water treatment, wastewater recycling, resource recovery, water analysis service, and environmental solutions to the electronics sector, including semiconductor, in India. The company added that by combining Membrane Group’s local expertise with Kurita’s technologies, products, and services already deployed in Japan, East Asia, North America, and Europe, the JV aims to become an “indispensable partner” for semiconductor manufacturers in India.

The new venture will also complement the operations of Kurita AquaChemie India Pvt. Ltd, which began selling water treatment chemicals in the country in 2024, further strengthening its business foundation in India.
