Ion Exchange Partners with MANN+HUMMEL for Advanced Membrane Technology Manufacturing

Ion Exchange (India) Limited has entered into a strategic technology transfer agreement with MANN+HUMMEL to strengthen its capabilities in advanced membrane-based water treatment solutions. The collaboration will focus on the domestic production of PVDF ultrafiltration (UF) membranes and membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems.

Under this partnership, Ion Exchange will localise the manufacturing of these high-performance technologies at its HYDRAMEM® facility in Goa. The initiative is aimed at expanding the company’s existing product portfolio while reducing reliance on imported solutions. By bringing production closer to the market, the company expects to improve supply chain efficiency and ensure faster delivery timelines for customers.

The agreement enables Ion Exchange to integrate globally established membrane technologies into its HYDRAMEM® range, enhancing its offerings in ultrafiltration and biological wastewater treatment systems. This move aligns with the company’s broader strategy of strengthening its position in the water and wastewater management sector through advanced and sustainable solutions.

Production will be carried out at the company’s upgraded facility in Goa, which has been equipped to support system integration and commercialisation of PVDF hollow fiber ultrafiltration membranes along with associated systems such as UltraSKID units. These technologies are widely used in municipal and industrial applications for water purification and wastewater treatment.

As part of the commercial arrangement, Ion Exchange will pay a technology transfer fee linked to revenues generated from products developed under this collaboration. The structure reflects a long-term partnership model focused on scaling production and market reach.

The collaboration is expected to deliver multiple advantages to customers by offering an integrated portfolio of membrane solutions, including ultrafiltration, membrane bioreactors, and reverse osmosis systems. Local manufacturing will help reduce lead times, improve service responsiveness, and provide greater flexibility in meeting project requirements across geographies.

With increasing demand for efficient water treatment technologies, particularly in industries and urban infrastructure, the partnership is positioned to address evolving market needs. By combining Ion Exchange’s engineering and project execution capabilities with MANN+HUMMEL’s filtration expertise, the initiative aims to deliver high-quality, reliable, and scalable solutions.

Ion Exchange (India) Limited has a long-standing presence in water and environmental management, providing solutions across industries, institutions, and municipalities. Through this collaboration, the company is taking a significant step toward strengthening its technology base and supporting the growing demand for advanced water treatment systems in India and global markets.
