The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) will now take over the development of the proposed Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for Gurugram’s industrial sectors 34, 35 and parts of sector 37. The handover from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) was finalised in November 2025 during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary’s office, with the objective of fast-tracking execution.
The CETP, planned on a 6.5-acre site identified in October 2023, will have a treatment capacity of 20 million litres per day (MLD). A fresh Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared under HSIIDC is currently under review and is expected to be finalised shortly, following which the tendering process will commence. The project is targeted for completion by December 2027.
The facility will cater to nearly 1,000 industrial units operating in the area, many of which currently depend on individual effluent treatment plants (ETPs). Industry representatives have highlighted that smaller units often struggle with the operational and compliance costs of independent ETPs, leading to untreated industrial discharge into nearby drains, including the Badshahpur drain, and resulting in environmental and public health concerns.
According to the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), Gurugram currently has two CETPs—one of 0.2 MLD capacity and another 55 MLD plant in Manesar, operated by HSIIDC, which treats nearly 50 MLD daily. Of this, 10–15 MLD of treated water is reused for non-potable purposes, with plans underway to enhance wastewater recycling.
GMDA has formally confirmed the transfer of responsibility to HSIIDC for the new CETP project.
