WD News: An expansion costing USD 180.5 million will be made to the Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project, according to the City and County of Honolulu, will increase the plant’s capacity to produce biosolids.

According to Roger Babcock, Head of Department of Environmental Services, “This project expands the infrastructure at the plant to process the increased volume of biosolids due to residential developments and the upgrade of the WWTP to full secondary treatment as part of the 2010 Consent Decree.”

The project is anticipated to be completed by 2028, according to the city. Synagro Technologies Inc has received the design-build-operate contract for the project.
