WD News: The new Vice-Chairman of Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Shri Somnath Bharti has assumed charge at the DJB Headquarters. Senior DJB officials including Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shri P. Krishnamurthy welcomed the new Vice Chairman.
Shri Somnath Bharti shared the vision of providing 24 hours uninterrupted water supply to every household of Delhi. He said that Delhi should also be made self-sufficient with regard to water availability and supply. The government also has the vision to turn Delhi into a ‘City of Lakes.’ Besides, it wants every household in the capital to be connected to a sewer network.
Shri Bharti said that in the coming days, many existing lakes will be rejuvenated and several new ones will also be developed. These lakes will not just enhance the beauty of Delhi, but also improve the groundwater recharge. The project has yielded great results so far and there has been a marked improvement in the water level at many places in Delhi.
The new Vice Chairman mentioned that DJB is expanding the sewer network in areas where the sewer line could not reach to date. A large number of unauthorised colonies have been connected to the sewer network, he said.
