WD News: Delhi Jal Board has stepped up its exercise to improve water supplies in Delhi and achieve the target of 24×7 water supply in the national capital.

In this regard, Delhi Jal Board Vice Chairman Somnath Bharti recently visited the Bawana Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The DJB Vice Chairman inspected the processes of the plant that are related to the cleaning of water and ascertaining the quality of water at Bawana WTP.

DJB Vice Chairman Somnath Bharti directed the officials to start the construction of the recycling plant in the Bawana Water Treatment Plant and also commission the Tubewells installed here to increase the production of water.

The DJB Vice Chairman said that Delhi Jal Board is planning to upgrade Bawana Water Treatment Plant on the lines of the Haiderpur Water Treatment Plant to increase water production. With the proposed upgradation, the total capacity of the Bawana Water Treatment Plant will reach 40 MGD. At present, 20 MGD of water is being produced from this plant.

As part of the upgradation plan for the plant, the filters and clarifiers installed in Bawana WTP will be replaced, which will help increase the capacity. DJB Vice Chairman said that 4 filter beds have been installed in the Bawana Water Treatment Plant. Each filter bed can treat 5-MGD of water on an everyday basis. The upgradation of the plant will increase the filter bed capacity to 9-MGD. Thus, by upgrading all 4 filter beds of the plant, the capacity of the Bawana Water Treatment Plant could be increased by an additional 16 MGD.

The DJB Vice Chairman said that Delhi Jal Board is upgrading the filter beds in Haiderpur WTP as a pilot project. The upgrading of the Bawana water treatment plant will take place based on the results of the pilot project at Haiderpur WTP.

Delhi Jal Board will be also building a recycling plant at Bawana Water Treatment Plant to reuse the wastewater generated during the processes. The capacity of the upcoming recycling plant will be 2 MGD. The wastewater coming out of Bawana WTP will be treated in the recycling plant and enter the supply system. He said that the tender for the recycling plant has been issued and the DJB officials have been instructed to start the construction work of the plant soon. This recycling plant will be ready in the coming nine months. With the construction of this plant, 2-MGD of additional water will be produced from Bawana Water Treatment Plant.
