MDL Signs MoU with MWRRA to Advance Technology-Driven Water Resource Management

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has achieved another significant milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA), strengthening efforts to leverage advanced technology and innovation for sustainable and data-driven management of water resources. The MoU was signed in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, underscoring the importance attached to technology-led initiatives aimed at addressing emerging challenges in water resource management. Cdr Vasudev Puranik, Director (Corporate Planning & Personnel), MDL, Chairperson, MWRRA, Smt. Shwetali Thakare, along with other senior officials and dignitaries, were present on the occasion.

Under the collaboration, advanced technological capabilities will be explored for the digital assessment of water resources and identification of potential solutions, with high-resolution satellite imaging serving as an important component. The initiative is expected to facilitate the collection and analysis of detailed spatial information, supporting better understanding of water resources and enabling more informed decision-making. The use of satellite-based technologies can provide valuable insights into water bodies, catchment areas, changes in water availability and other critical parameters, helping stakeholders develop more effective strategies for planning, monitoring and conservation.

The partnership represents an important step towards integrating space-enabled technologies, digital assessment tools and data analytics into water resource governance. Such technology-driven approaches can contribute to improved resource planning, enhanced monitoring capabilities and more sustainable management practices. For MDL, the initiative also reflects its expanding focus on applying its technological expertise and innovation capabilities beyond traditional shipbuilding activities to support wider national and societal objectives. The collaboration between MDL and MWRRA demonstrates the potential of public-sector technological partnerships in developing innovative solutions to complex resource management challenges.

By combining institutional expertise with advanced digital and satellite-based capabilities, the initiative seeks to support a more resilient and sustainable water management ecosystem. The MoU marks another step forward in harnessing technology, innovation and data-driven solutions for a sustainable future, reinforcing Maharashtra’s commitment to modernising resource management through advanced technological interventions. Technology for insight. Innovation for sustainability. Data for a water-secure future.
