CM Naidu Launches Rs 126-cr Water Project for Irrigation and Drinking Water in Tirupati

On 13 January 2026, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation for a Rs 126-crore water project in the Chandragiri constituency, aimed at improving irrigation and drinking water supply in Tirupati district.

The project will draw water from the Handri-Neeva branch canal and channel it to the Kalyani dam through a series of pipelines. Water will be lifted by 10 mrs. at a 53-km point along the canal to fill local tanks, benefiting farmers and ensuring reliable drinking water, particularly for the Tirumala hill shrine. The scheme is expected to irrigate over 1,100 acres of land, with specific tanks such as Moolapalle and Kondreddy Kandriga receiving millions of cubic feet of water for local agricultural use.

Additionally, around 400 million cubic ft. will be diverted to the Kalyani dam to supply drinking water for up to 120 days annually. The project is expected to be completed within two years.
