The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, spearheaded a cleanliness drive at Kalindi Kunj Ghat near Okhla Barrage today as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign. Themed “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath,” the initiative highlighted the power of collective action in fostering a cleaner, greener environment.
Union Minister Shri C.R. Patil emphasized the progress in rejuvenating the Yamuna, stating, “Significant progress has already been made. Until recently, the river was hardly visible due to polluted discharge, but today the Yamuna is clearly seen again.” He acknowledged the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Chief Ministers of Delhi and Haryana in driving this mission.
Union Minister of State Shri V. Somanna lauded the campaign, urging citizens to take similar initiatives at home and across the nation, highlighting the importance of clean rivers like the Ganga alongside the Yamuna.
The drive saw enthusiastic participation from citizens, students, NGOs, and community groups, reinforcing the campaign as a people-driven movement. Shri Ashok K.K. Meena, Secretary, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, emphasized the nationwide observation of Swachhotsav 2025 from September 17 to October 2, while Shri Rajeev Kumar Mital, Director General of NMCG, underscored the need for sustained public engagement to conserve rivers.
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 initiative reaffirms India’s collective commitment to rejuvenating rivers, blending citizen participation with the guidance and leadership of senior officials to ensure cleaner rivers and a healthier future.
