WD News: The Water Resource Department (WRD) Minister of Goa, Subhash Shirodkar has said that his department would install a 250 MLD project to supply to North Goa to solve the problem of water shortage in the next 10 to 15 months.

“This year, people will have to bear with water shortage but by next year, there will be some relief and by 2025, there will be no water scarcity,” Shirodkar said.

He further stated that Goa will have sufficient water in 2024 but some areas may
still face problems until the Sal plant is ready. The Sal plant has been planned considering the water requirements until 2037, he said.

Shirodkar also said that the plans for rainwater harvesting will be unveiled in June or July. The response of farmers to the water-harvesting methods has been reasonably good so far, he said.

Additional pipelines to Kushavati to Davorlim and Davorlim to Verna are the two other projects which the WRD Minister intends to take up on priority in order to solve the scarcity of water, he mentioned.
