24×7 Drinking Water Supply for Trichy City Before 2024

Smart meters will be affixed in the wards to measure water consumption. Commercial properties in the seven wards will get the meters on priority to levy charges for the actual consumption.

WD News: The pilot scheme to supply 24X7 drinking water to seven wards in Trichy city will be completed within this year, and the same scheme will be expanded to all the other remaining wards before 2024, Mayor Mu Anbalagan informed the Trichy corporation council.

At present, the civic body collects different tariffs for domestic and non-domestic water consumers. While domestic consumers were charged at the fixed slab rate, commercial were charged for every 1,000 litres of water consumed.

“We will implement a 24×7 drinking water scheme in all wards before the next year. Jal Jeevan Mission and other schemes will be utilised to materialise the proposal,” the mayor said.

Two drinking water source augmentation projects are underway to increase the water yield, commissioner R Vaithinathan added.
