The DJB was also directed to deploy dedicated teams for “round-the-clock” vigilance and maintenance in high-density and vulnerable areas.
In light of the Indore water contamination, Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh earlier this week directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to intensify regular inspection of water supply pipelines, the Minister’s office said on Wednesday (January 7, 2026).
“Intensify regular inspections of all water supply pipelines, particularly in areas where drinking water lines run in proximity to sewer lines, to detect and repair any leaks, damages, or potential points of cross-contamination immediately,” a direction issued by the Minister to the DJB read.
The DJB was also directed to deploy dedicated teams for “round-the-clock” vigilance and maintenance in high-density and vulnerable areas.
“Ensure prompt response to public complaints regarding water quality, odour, taste, or discoloration, with on-ground verification and corrective action within the shortest possible time,” the direction said.
The DJB manages the drinking water supply and sewage management in Delhi.
Mr. Singh has also directed the conduct of periodic audits of infrastructure to identify vulnerable sections and prioritise repairs or replacements to prevent any mixing of untreated water or external contaminants into the potable supply network.
Incidentally, a debate on the functioning of the DJB in on the cards during the ongoing Delhi Assembly session. The Board has 49.3% of sanctioned posts lying vacant, according to a reply to a question posed by an MLA.
