Chhapra Likely to Get Sewage Treatment Plant by February 2024

Residents of Chhapra in Saran district are likely to get a New Year gift in the form of a Rs 244-crore sewage treatment plant. About 97% of work on the plant, being constructed by the urban development department under ‘Namami Gange Programme’, has been completed. The plant is likely to be handed over to the Chhapra Municipal Corporation by February next year.

The project, launched in 2020, was expected to be completed in June this year. However, it got delayed due to some technical problems. The construction firm has been given the responsibility to maintain the plant for a period of 15 years.

Santosh Kumar Bhatt, project director of Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation, said the project would benefit at least six lakh people. “Under the project, dirty drain water will be diverted to the intermediate pumping station through a pipeline. From there, the water will go to the main pumping station. After treatment, the water will be used for other purposes,” he added.

The main pumping station has been set up at Sherpur village. It has seven intermediate pumping stations.
