Idukki: Pattissery Dam at Kanthaloor in Idukki, constructed at a cost of Rs 60.34 crore by the irrigation department, was inaugurated on Sunday. The function was officiated by water resources minister Roshy Augustine.
The dam is part of the Chenkalar project located along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. Speaking at the event, Augustine said the project would ensure drinking water availability during the summer months and provide adequate water for agricultural purposes. He added that steps are being intensified to guarantee access to clean water in the region.
With a storage capacity of one million cubic metres, the composite dam will facilitate irrigation to around 240 hectares of farmland in Kanthaloor and Keezhanthoor areas. The project is expected to boost agriculture and tourism in the historically significant Anchunadu region and mark a major development in the irrigation sector.
