Gandhinagar: The Navsari Municipal Corporation (NMC) launched a Rs 112 crore integrated water supply and drainage project to address chronic drinking water shortages and sewage disposal issues in the city’s peripheral areas, an official statement said on Friday.
Navsari was upgraded to a municipal corporation on January 1 last year, following the merger of the former Navsari–Vijalpore municipality with four adjoining villages: Aru, Dharagiri, Dantej, and Hansapor.
According to the statement, these peri-urban areas have long struggled with inadequate water supply infrastructure and the absence of an underground drainage network, resulting in persistent sanitation problems and health concerns, particularly among children.
The project will be implemented in phases and will involve laying new water supply pipelines, strengthening the drainage network, and constructing overhead tanks, underground sumps, a sewage pumping station, and a fully equipped Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).
In addition, a new water treatment plant will be set up to ensure the supply of safe and adequate drinking water to the newly merged areas, the statement said.
