The Nashik Municipal Corporation is in the process of constructing a sewage treatment plant on a Hybrid Annuity model through public-private partnership (PPP-HAM)

The state government on Monday gave the approval to set up a sewage treatment plant worth Rs. 1,482.95 crore at Nashik as part of its preparations for the Sinhastha Kumbh Mela that will be held from October till September next year.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation is in the process of constructing a sewage treatment plant on a Hybrid Annuity model through public-private partnership (PPP-HAM). The tender, worth Rs. 2,632.95 crore, includes 25 years of maintenance and repair of the plant. The state government on Monday gave the approval for the tender, excluding the maintenance part.

Out of Rs. 1,482.95 crore, Rs. 1,038.07 crore or 70 percent of the project cost will be given by the state government as grant while the remaining Rs. 444.88 crore will be raised by the contractor.

“Considering the large number of devotees coming to Sinhasth Kumbh Mela, it is important to strengthen basic civic amenities, in which modernising the sewage treatment is a key issue. It is important from the point of view of keeping the environmental balance, protecting public health and maintaining sanitation,” said an official from the urban development department.

Bids worth Rs. 4,000 crore for infrastructure facilities have already been floated, while more tenders worth Rs. 2,000 are in the last leg of the process. Works include cleaning the Godavari, setting up sewage treatment plants, water purification and release of more water among others. We have earmarked land for the Sadhugram and it will soon be acquired,” Fadnavis had said after the review meeting in Nashik in the first week of June.
