10 Minor Irrigation Projects for Dakshin Kannada Soon Says Minister

  • Karnataka, September 14, 2018: Karnataka’s Minor Irrigation Minister C S Puttaraju today announced that 10 minor irrigation projects will be implemented in Dakshina Kannada district. The estimated costs of the projects is said to be Rs. 568 crores.

    The minister was speaking at Harekala after a spot inspection of barrage-cum-bridge work across River Nethravathi.

    He also shared that irrigation projects totally estimated at Rs 1,658 crore, have been announced by former chief minister Siddaramaiah in his budget, and the Paschimavahini project has also approved.

    At Harekala, a dam would be constructed near Adyar-Kannur, on the right bank of the river. The dam would also serve as a bridge linking Adyar to Kannur. Currently, locals use boats to cross the river. The journey is 30 km by road. The cabinet had approved the project, and the tenders would be called soon. The project is expected to take two years for completion.
