Orange City might lose its water as firm ditches contract

  • 09 Pril, 2019 - Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had awarded DRA Consultants Ltd a project to look after the city’s 24X& water supply and its O&M. However, as per the details coming in the company has parted its way from extending the contract. This can create a setback for NMC which was relying on the former and is yet to build its own mechanism to execute and monitor the projects for the last eight years.

According to the source, NMC is trying to convince DRA officials in extending the contract elsewise the city will soon face the adversity of water scarcity. The NMC officials quoted that DRA has been doing this job for the last 8 years and shifting this to a new player won’t be an easier task. NMC had awarded a contract for operation and maintenance of water supply system and execution of 24x7 Water Supply Project to private operator Orange City Water Private Ltd (OCW) in 2011. After roping in private operator, NMC shifted all its staff to other departments. There is only one NMC delegate for each of the 10 zones to execute and monitor the two works. DRA Consultants had prepared the detailed project report and also terms and conditions for NMC. Therefore, DRA Consultants was also appointed as a consultant to execute and monitor the two works. NMC was totally dependent on the company for the two jobs for the last eight years.
