Odisha to include wastewater management in school curriculum

  • In a move to make the citizens more alert and aware about the impending water crisis in the state, Odisha government is planning to introduce a chapter on wastewater management in the school curriculum for class IX and X students.

The aim is to raise awareness about the sanitation and hygiene practices among the students. The decision was taken keeping in mind the frequent outbreak of water-borne diseases because of the faecal contamination of the drinking water in various parts of the state.

As per the reports, various aspects of wastewater management including guidelines for seepage management, release of wastewater, and transportation of sludge will be taught to the students.
